Healing for our Future ~ The Beacon for July 27, 2012

When most people think of healing they think of healing their past.  They think of all the things that have happened to them, or that they have done, that they still hold energy, emotion or trauma around.  For the most part this is the main benefit of the work that we do at The Lifehouse –to  help the bodymind connect with and integrate these old energies.

This past week I was reminded of another very important reason for chiropractic care.  One of clients, Emily, was in a freak accident and was hit by a car.  Her body was thrown 20 - 30 meters shattering her pelvis and elbow and leaving her body covered in road rash.  Initially the emergency crew were uncertain if she would even survive.  Now just a week later she is recovering beyond anyone’s expectations.  The large road rash that had covered her back is all but gone.  Her mind has already realized the gifts of the accident and is focused on positive outcomes.  And this in just one week!
Emily was very intentional in building her foundation of health – following recommendations, reading hand-outs, being curious with great questions and attending and fully participating in SRI (breathing) workshops.  It is clear to see the benefits of a highly flexible, well tuned, and focused human being.  Way to go Emily.

Chiropractic is much more than merely  taking care of neck and back pain – it’s preventative, it assists recovery and builds resources within our systems for when life stresses (mental, emotional, physical and electromagnetic) arise.   On that note I ask you, how much reserve do you have in your health account?  Do you have a reserve that you can draw upon in time of need?  Do you have what it takes to handle the bumps and bruises that life sometimes offers us?  Or are you merely surviving, just having enough to make it through the day running your tank near empty?  Remember that your investments today will support your future tomorrow and sometimes in unexpected ways!

“Chiropractic is health insurance.  Premiums small.  Dividends large.”   B.J. Palmer D.C.

As well as Emily is doing, any extra healing energy and prayer that could be sent her way would be greatly appreciated.    Research has demonstrated again and again the power of healing intention.  It is simple to do and would benefit her greatly.  We appreciate your attention to this.  Way to go Emily in your road to recovery!

Parking tips & suggestions for Wed July 25th

Hello,
We’re having an incredible response to our “Christmas in July – Receive, Give Back and Pay it Forward” celebration tomorrow – Wednesday, July 25th!  Thank you to those who have already dropped off some much appreciated and very generous food items to support our Salvation Army community.  We are very touched by the spirit and warmth already being generated towards Wednesday.

With such excitement growing, I’d like to offer a couple of ideas to support you with parking logistics.
1) If you’re able to walk or carpool to your appointment please consider it.
2) Parking is also available further West at Serauxman Field and at the Buttertubs Marsh entrance.
3) There will be two spots available in our driveway.

To respect our neighbours and local traffic please don’t park on Bird Sanctuary Drive opposite of the angle park section of our block.

Thanks for your consideration.
Looking forward to serving you an exceptional chiropractic adjustment tomorrow!

Christmas comes early to Salvation Army - Nanaimo Bulletin

Christmas comes early to Salvation Army

Christmas is coming early to the Salvation Army thanks to the efforts of the Lifehouse Chiropractic Studio.
During the months leading up to, and through December, donations for organizations helping the hungry are needed and it is usually the time when people give the most.

But come July and its warm weather, people tend to forget that local food banks and charities are still in need of donations.

In an effort to fill the food shelves at the Salvation Army,  Lifehouse Chiropractic Studio has set July 25 as Christmas in July, adjusting clients by donation of food items.

“This is a great way for us to acknowledge the patronage of our existing clients,” said Norm Detillieux of Lifehouse. “It is also a great chance for us to give back to the community that is our home and that has given us so much.  We anticipate collecting an outstanding amount of food for the Salvation Army.”  Rob Anderson, Salvation Army community ministries director, said it’s the overwhelming support from individuals and businesses like Lifehouse Chiropractic that allows the Salvation Army to provide the services it does.

Along with the complimentary adjustment for the food donation, Lifehouse offers people not under chiropractic care to come in and explore what chiropractic could do for them by offering an initial consultation and examination for a food donation.

Thank You ~ The Beacon for July 19, 2012

Many times a day I hear the words “Thank you” offered to our team and me.  So often people find it in their hearts to thank us for the work that we do, for the ideas we share or the space and intention that we hold.  And we welcome your thanks.  It is nice to know that we are appreciated.

You are appreciated as well!  This feeling of gratitude is mutual.  It is a circle of thanks.   Heather, Danielle, our team and myself feel so blessed to be able to do the “work” that we do with the wonderful group of people that we work for.   Most days I leave “work” feeling more joy filled, more energized, and more optimistic than I did when I began the day.  Much of this is a result of the people we “work” for.   I don’t often take enough time to tell you all how much I appreciate being in your life. Thank you!  Thank you for adding so much to the Lifehouse and our lives.

To demonstrate our thank you we want to celebrate you and our community with a special day next Wednesday, July 25th, a day that we are calling “Christmas in July ~ a day to Receive, Give Back and Pay It Forward”.

Receive:
We will be serving with extended adjusting hours, from 9:00 AM onwards, complimentary adjustments, snacks, and entertainment throughout the day. There will be also a prize draw with donations from our various sponsors. (see list of generous sponsors below). Let us spoil you, let us fill your life force tank and let us thank you for being part of our community.

Give Back:
In exchange for our generosity we ask of yours as well. Throughout the day we will be collecting non-perishable food items and money donations on behalf of the Salvation Army. I am not sure if you are aware of this or not, but summer is when the food banks are actually most in need of support. Let’s fill the bellies of those in need.  (* Please note - You’re welcome to drop off food items this week to fill up our special tree in the reception area)

Pay It Forward:
Between July 23rd and Aug 1st for all new clients to our office we will offer a complimentary initial visit (value of $100) in exchange for a food donation. What a great opportunity for you to “Pay It Forward” by helping your family, friends and co-workers heal and optimize their health. Gift certificates are available at the front desk and we also have some attached to this email. Remember the benefits of chiropractic are wholistic, virtually everyone with a spine can benefit!

And if you have not been in to the office for a while, don’t be shy we would love to see you too. Come say hi and receive a much-needed adjustment on us!

May you welcome the flow of giving and receiving, as one is as important as the other as we allow the energy of life to flow through us with ease.  Denying ones offer of thanks creates resistance to this flow.  So open up and…..”Receive, Give Back and Pay It Forward!”

Have a great weekend and I look forward to celebrating you and our community next week!

Many thanks
The Lifehouse

"Christmas in July" ~ The Beacon for July 12, 2012

Christmas time comes but once a year.  BUT NOT AT THE LIFEHOUSE!   I was speaking with Santa last week and he shared with me what good little boys and girls you have been.  Heather, our team and I are well aware of this too.   We know the quality of people that you are.  We see how committed you have been to your health and wellbeing.  We are privileged to experience your kindness, warmth and integrity on a regular basis working for with you here at The Lifehouse.   We are overjoyed being a part of your lives and are so grateful that you have included us as part of yours.  In fact so much so, we have decided to honor you with a special day, a day for all the good little boys and girls in the area, a day we are calling “Christmas in July”.

We hope that you can join us Wednesday July 25th for our Christmas in July Community Celebration event.  This is a chance for you to receive, pay it forward and give back.

May you have a very Merry "Christmas in July".

Season’s greetings,

From all of the Lifehouse crew.

"Christmas in July" press release

When the word Christmas comes to mind most people have thoughts of winter, family and the gift of giving. During those months leading up to and through December donations are very much needed and this is usually the time when the most is given.

July is warm and we forget that it is during the middle of the year when our local food banks and charities are the most in need. With this understanding The Lifehouse Chiropractic Studio has set Wednesday, July 25th, 2012 as "Christmas in July"!

On this day at the chiropractic studio they will be adjusting their existing clients by donation of food items.  For those people who are not under chiropractic care and would like opportunity to come in and explore what chiropractic could do for them Dr. Norm and his team are also offering initial consultations and examinations at no charge (normally a $100 value) and ask people to make food donations as well.  “This is a great way for us to acknowledge the patronage of our existing clients, create relationships with new clients and for us to give back to the community that has given us so much.  We anticipate collecting an outstanding amount of food for the Salvation Army.“ says Dr. Norm Detillieux, D.C.

Dr. Norm has been a long time supporter of the Salvation Army donating a few hours of his time each week at the Hope Centre downtown Nanaimo for the past three years. He also holds a donation day each year which this year has been deemed as Christmas in July.

Be Healthy ~ The Beacon for July 5, 2012

Most people have the order of creation backwards.  They focus way too much energy on what they want to have.  They figure that once they have optimal health, the new car, the new job then they will be able to do what they really want to do, like have energy for exercising, enjoy life more, take some time off of work, which will allow them to be the type of person that they truly want to be.  This is a have-do-be focus.  This puts the end result as the starting point or focus rather than what it truly is.   This is not the way things work in life.

A more accurate order of creation is the be-do-have focus.   Before you can “do” you must first “be”.  Being is the starting point, the source, from which all comes from.  Focus on your being first, and then your doing will naturally follow suit.  You will find it much easier to do the things that you know you must do in order to achieve what it is that you want to have.  The “have’s” are the ‘things’, the results of your being and doing.  The real benefit of having and working toward your goals is who you become along the journey anyways.
Now I would like to bring this home to your health.  Let’s start with the BEING.  What does it mean for you to be healthy?  How do you define health?  Are you merely trying to avoid pain and experience comfort or do you see your health as a vehicle for you to live your dream life?   How will you know when you are truly healthy?   A very important part of being healthy is defining it in your own way.

Next let’s look at DOING.  Do you know where you are starting from?  In order to know the most effective path to arrive at where you want to go you need to understand where you are starting from.  It helps to have a map to get to Victoria… but if you don’t know that you’re currently in Nanaimo – the map isn’t really going to help to it’s full potential.  Now that you’ve determined your starting point, how many of you have goals in regards to your health?  How many of you have daily, weekly and monthly health commitments?  Do you evaluate and have a regular check-in to see if you are on track? Creating an action plan with a set of goals is the essential next step in creating your health.
Lastly let’s look at HAVING.  What are you most looking forward to in regards to your health, what will your health enable you to have?  How will better health improve your relationships?  Your work?  Your social life and your hobbies?

Align yourself with a Be-Do-Have focus in all aspects of your life especially your life and watch your life and you become what you have always known to be possible.

Yours in health
Dr. Norm
