Keep your health & wellbeing a focus.

Holiday Stressbusters...

By now I am sure you have found yourself in full stride of the holiday season. I am always amazed this time of year just how tense people’s spines feel. Without a doubt this is the most stressful time of year for many. It is not surprising when you consider that most people cram 4 weeks of work into 3, and then for the final week we are encouraged to eat and drink indulgently, socialize excessively and abandon our normal rhythms and healthy practices.
This year I encourageyou to keep your health and wellbeing a focus. Below you will find some simple tips to have your holidays not only joy filled but also healthy. All the best!
Watch your breathing. Most of us don't breathe enough normally; we take shallow breaths and deprive ourselves of oxygen. Add stress to that and we can even become light-headed. Sit in a quiet place, close your eyes and take 10 deep breaths. Inhale slowly and exhale more slowly. You'll be amazed at how relaxed you will feel!

Watch alcohol and food intake. Just because it is offered to you doesn’t mean you need to partake in it. And if you do have one - enjoy it; enjoy it so fully that you may not need a second, third or fourth. There is nothing wrong with a small amount of alcohol, sweets, or rich foods; it is when we indulge in gluttonous behaviours that take us half of January to finish digesting what we ate for Christmas dinner that is a problem.

Moderation is key or consider upgrading your choices to:
Indulge in healthy treats. It is the season for indulging - how about indulging in a nice bag of organic nuts, dried fruit or some other exotic food that you really enjoy that your body would also enjoy (and thank you for).

Make sure you have some quiet, alone time scheduled. The social demands of holiday seasons are high. We are required to interact more with family, co-workers, etc. That can be very tiring, especially if socializing causes you anxiety. Factor in some down-time.
Plan one fun event just for you. You probably spend much time and effort ensuring others are taken care of and entertained this season. Remember to treat yourself - get a manicure, go to a heated driving range, babysit a friend's new puppy or read that new best-seller you've just received.
Connect with family to watch a favourite holiday movie or show. Pull your family together, laugh, cry, and fill your hearts up with love. The holiday season is such a time to nourish family connections.
Get some exercise. Most usual exercise routines get abandoned this time of year. We are full of excuses. But exercise is a terrific stress-buster and it is a terrific way to burn off and move through last night’s cream cheese surprises or sweat out the extra Caesar you drank. During this time of year we typically have a little extra down time which is just begging to be filled with walks, a yoga class or a run. You will feel so much better for it.
Get enough rest. This is a wonderful time of year to nourish your body with a little extra rest. It’s okay to call it a night before the rest of the party, to sleep in a little extra or to enjoy an afternoon nap. I dare you!
Be conscious. Be aware of yourself; don’t turn your brain off. When you reach for the next treat, pause and ask yourself is this really what I want (Consider the question – Is this going to clog me or cleanse me?) If you do eat it, track yourself afterward in how it makes you feel 10 minutes or an hour later. This year I have been blown away with how little I enjoy holiday treats. Sure they taste great (for the two minutes I am chewing on them) but after that I am left with 60 minutes of dissatisfaction as my energy gets all wonky and I have a hard time focusing on anything.

Give healthy gifts. Do they really need another box of chocolate? Instead, how about giving them a yoga DVD or a bag of organic fruit or nuts? These can be a very welcomed gift at this time of year. Or share our "Gift of Health" certificate(print the attached below) - to introduce your friend, co-worker, family member or neighbour to chiropractic and have their nerve system checked for interference. You'll never know the long-term difference you can make by inspiring someone to make their health and wellbeing a priority. 
And what better time to start then now and carry forward into 2015!

2014 Healthy Holiday Grubathon – A Customer Appreciation Holiday Potluck Dinner

Hey community I wanted to take a second and wish you a preliminary "Happy Holidays!"
I know, I know!  It’s not even December yet and we are talking about the holidays - but I am only doing this because I have something special toinvite you to.  Before you get too crazy busy with family and work parties I would like you to join my friends Chad Henderson, Diana Marchand, their communities and myself to a giant potluck dinner.  Only catch is we want you to bring healthy food.  Did you know the average Christmas dinner is between 6,000 and 8,000 calories?  Yikes!!

The Five Energetic Intelligences by Dr. Donald Epstein
There is extensive scientific evidence that supports the existence of energy within and around the human body.  Various disciplines talk about and use the energy within and around the body.  Mystics, yogis, healers, and shamans have observed multiple levels of energies around the body for ages.
Reorganizational Healing (the meta model that Network Spinal Analysis is practiced) acknowledges the existence of your body’s subtle energy system and takes into account that you are comprised of at least five complex fields of energy and information, each related to different levels of life-expression and consciousness. We call these various levels Energetic Intelligences (EI).  The Energetic Intelligences also refer to the inner-states of consciousness associated with your body’s “subtle energy” systems.

The five Energetic Intelligences are:

Immune Boosters Top 10

1.  LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. Your body will warn you with subtle signs when your immune system is fighting something off.  Most early signs are behavioural (especially in children) like being more tired than usual, feeling inexplicably cranky, appetite changes, etc.  Pay attention and increase the preventative measures listed below.
2.  Keep stress in check. Slow down your pace when needed.  Try going to bed earlier and take an epsom salt bath.  Chronic stress directly decreases the strength of your immune system.  If you are under a lot of stress, you MUST take extra efforts to boost your system.

3.  Get exercise & fresh air daily (20 minutes minimum).  Movement keeps the lymphatic system flowing, which is responsible for clearing out the “garbage” (dirt/germs) your immune system is dumping to keep you healthy.

4.  Eat healthy whole foods.  Start by increasing your fresh, in-season local produce.  Add foods that have natural decongestant, anti-bacterial & anti-viral properties to your daily food or in teas (onions, garlic, ginger & honey are the best time-proven natural cold & flu fighters)

5.  Minimize sugar, caffeine, preservatives & food additives.  All of these decrease the effectiveness of your immune system.  Did you know that 1 teaspoon of sugar can shut your immune system down for 8 hours?! It is especially important to cut these out when symptoms are beginning to surface.

6.  Take high quality supplements:  Take the time to buy directly from a health care provider or health store, as many “drugstore” vitamin brands are less potent, and contain many fillers.  The list below is important for everyone at all times of the year.  Breastfed Infants can take an infant-formula probiotic and they will receive the benefits from their mother when she takes the following three supplements:
a)    A Multivitamin / multi-mineral combination
b)    Essential fatty acids (omega 3,6,9)
c)     Probiotics/acidophilus

7.  Drink purified water daily.  Dehydration decreases the immune response, and limits your body’s ability to flush out any toxins.

8. Choose natural approaches before medications (especially suppressants) when possible.  The easiest step is to notice the early signs and nip symptoms in the bud.  ALL symptoms in a healthy body are working to keep you healthy.  A fever is your body’s means of raising the temperature to “cook off” bacteria and viruses and keep them from multiplying.  Coughs, sneezes, diarrhea and runny noses are all ways your body eliminates bacteria and viruses.  Look first to boost your body through food & teas, and then consider herbal or homeopathic remedies with some guidance from a knowledgeable health care provider.

9.  Establish a healthy sleep routine.  When your body says to rest, LISTEN to it.  Sleep is when your body restores itself and does most of its healing.

10. Get adjusted by your chiropractor.  Remember that the purpose of an adjustment is to open up communication between your brain and your body – this is ALWAYS necessary for optimal function in every system of your body, including your immune system.  Adjustments stimulate immune responses for quicker, more efficient healing.   To utilize chiropractic to strengthen your immune system, you should be adjusted on a regular basis for general health, at the first signs of a cold or flu and once symptoms have started to help your body’s immune system work more efficiently.

Boosting Your Immune System with Chiropractic Care

What you should know about your Amazing Immune System

   Would you like to take the wisdom of your body to the next level?  Would you like to live knowing that you can trust your body to properly respond to the stress of the next flu season, or to future “allergy” seasons?  Does it make sense to free your body to be full of health so you can rely more on the strength of your own immune system to keep you healthy?  Then  you don’t feel you have to resort to medication and  wonder what the side effects - short term or long term - will be for you or your children? Do you want to teach your kids how to be stronger than germs, so they can grow up learning about and trusting the power of their body to heal, grow, and be well?

   Hey there, I am Dr. Norm - Helping people improve their health and their immune systems is the passion in my life.  Many people are needlessly living in a disempowered state where they feel victim to a weakened immune system, allergies or germs.  There is another way.  There are natural solutions to help you rebuild and restore this most amazing part of you.  I hope you enjoy re-discovering your amazing immune system, your ability to be stronger than you have been told, and that you recognize the amazing power you have to be well in the world of bacteria and viruses.  Following the end of the article you will find a top ten list of immune boosters.

   Inside of you are an astonishing 70,000,000,000,000 (Seventy Trillion) cells all living in perfect order and harmony.  You are a living community of cells.  Wait, there is more.  Inside you there are an additional 700,000,000,000,000 (Seven Hundred Trillion) viruses and bacteria.  Wow! You are not only a living community but you are a living ecosystem! 

   99.9% of bacteria and viruses are good or do no harm, which means that only 0.1% are harmful.  Have we ever been focused on a select minority!  These good bacteria and viruses do many important things that help to keep us alive; in fact you wouldn’t be here without them.  They help us to digest our food, they release vitamins and nutrients, they help to digest old diseased tissue (like garburators), and they take up residence so the really bad bacteria and viruses don’t overtake us. (like planting a crop to crowd out the weeds).

   Every immune system has the same function, in this case I will specify “me” and “mine” to stay consistent in language.  My immune system has two primary jobs to carry out.  The first job is to determine who I am and who I am not; a state of the art, ecosystem surveillance.   The second part of the immune system’s job is to determine whether or not what is “not me” is good (or at least harmless) or if it is bad (threatening).  Just imagine how sophisticated our bodies are for this to happen all day long, with all 700,000,000,000,000 good germs inside you leaving your healthy cells alone, and focusing on only the small bunch that truly needs to be eliminated.  Your immune system has been evolving since the beginning of time; it is encoded in your DNA.  It learns and grows each and every time you come in contact with a new germ (via a natural, T-cell dominated response), and is passed down from mother to child through her blood and her milk.  Wow, how amazing you are!   Imagine what this means to staying healthy as an adult; growing up in a world that takes your strengths and maximizes them, and increasing your self reliance when it comes to flu, colds and everyday germs.

   Your immune system is on a delicate balance, controlled by your nerve system.  If the immune system is functioning too little, meaning that it doesn’t respond enough, this leaves you more likely to develop colds and flus and even more vulnerable to serious infections.  It is also important to remember that the body’s first line of defense against cancer is the immune system.

Did you know that when you have a fever the world’s most powerful cancer fighting chemical, interleukin 2 is released naturally from your body!

   All of us have cancer cells inside of us.  The difference between those people who develop a serious cancer and those who are able to destroy the cancering cells early depends on how well the immune system is working.  On the other hand, if the immune system is over-functioning, meaning that it is responding too much, this leads to things like asthma and allergies where a tiny dust particle can cause a giant reaction in the body. This uses a large amount of energy, causes symptoms and can lead to exhausting the immune system down the road. Another concern for an immune system functioning too much is auto-immune diseases, like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.  This happens when the immune system is so hot wired it actually starts to see itself as being foreign and mounts an all-out immune system attack on itself!

and your immune system functioning optimally.

   The core access point to balancing your immune system is gained by balancing your nerve system.   Research is now demonstrating the intimate link between the immune system and the nerve system as the nerves are the messengers between the brain and the immune system via tiny neuropeptides.   Chiropractors are doctors who specialize in balancing your nerve system.  In my office I have seen many people’s immune systems improve through chiropractic care.  One man, who had allergies for the previous twenty years, was so excited to spend a spring without ‘hachoooing’ during this year’s rag weed season!  Research shows that those under regular chiropractic care have up to 200% BETTER IMMUNE FUNCTION THAN THOSE WHO DO NOT GET ADJUSTED.  Chiropractic adjustments coupled with a healthy lifestyle in accordance with your body’s needs is your best course of action in taking proactive steps to build your immune system naturally. What would your life be like if you lived free of interference? - Oct. 6th, 2014

To begin with let us establish a couple of truths.  Inside you is your innate intelligence.  This innate intelligence is perfect in its expression.  It is the wisdom that coordinates all or your 70 trillion cells all living in perfect order.  It also provides surveillance amongst the 700 trillion viruses and bacteria inside your body allowing the good to remain and destroying the bad before they take over.    Your innate intelligence grows your hair, replenishes the lining of your stomach and renews your blood all day, every day.  Wow is your innate ever incredible!  

This same innate is also the wisdom that helped you learn to speak, learn how to pronounce words, form sentences, read and write.  It is the same wisdom that helped you learn to walk, run and ride a bicycle.   It is the part of you that provides you your intuition, your gut feelings, helping you know your own truth.   Innate is also unique to you in that you have special skills, your own talents; you have gifts that no one else on the planet has.  Yes, your innate is very, very incredible.

Unfortunately your innate can get blocked, just like a river’s flow can be reduced with a beaver dam, dead log and litter.  When your life stresses rise higher than your ability to handle and manage them innate communication is also reduced.  Falls, accidents, injuries, poor diet and an overwhelming workload all interfere with your body’s innate ability to fully express itself and disease ensues.   This also happens when your ego mind interferes with your innate wisdom within.  Judgement, negative self talk, insecurities all interfere with your innate expression and a life of mediocrity results.

Why you are so important

We care about you so much.
We want the best for you.
We want you to live a long healthy, happy life.

We want you to spend each passing year feeling better, more joyous, and more full of life.
But your “healthcare” could be bringing you down. For many it is making them sicker filling their veins with dangerous substances that are shortening their life span.

Sure, medication may alleviate pain temporarily, but for many it is reducing their quality of life.
