Why the Spine?
This week I ask….Why
is the Spine the focus of attention in this work? Thought you might
be wondering, so here, with the help of Dr. Donald Epstein are the
first 3 of the 6 key reasons for the spine’s importance. Enjoy….
- Structure
Many chiropractors
say that structure determines function. To a degree, I believe this
is true. Dr. Donald Epstein says this another way. “The shape,
position and tone of your spine and nerve system, is directly related
to the shape, position and tone of your life.” You know the
importance of structure. Think of the importance of the structure of
your car. If the car’s tires are slightly misaligned by as little
as a few millimeters, consider how much this can reduce mileage on
the tires and increase gas consumption. Think of the importance of
the structure of the foundation of a house. If the foundation is off
by just a few inches it can be potentially devastating to the
integrity of the home. This is very similar to your spine. Your spine
is the foundation and framework of your body. If you are out of
alignment, even as little as a few millimeters, it can cause
tremendous strain on your muscles, joints and ligaments, often
causing early degeneration, and things such as osteoarthritis.
- Function
The spine does something
else, perhaps even more important than holding you upright. It
protects the delicate, soft, core essence that is your spinal cord.
Your spinal cord is how you function. It’s what connects the brain
to the body and the body to the brain - creating both the mind-body
and the body-mind connection. You know the importance of this
function in examples like spinal cord accidents and paralysis; when
the spinal cord is compromised at the base of the neck it can cause
organ failure throughout the rest of the body and be, potentially,
life threatening. You also experience this when your leg falls asleep
and you lose muscle control. It’s not that your muscle has fallen
asleep; it’s your nerve that tells the muscle to contract that has
been compromised. Dorland’s Medical dictionary defines the nerve
system as the master control system of the body. The nerve system
acts like a computer’s CPU (central processing unit). It runs both
the hardware and software and integrates the two. It is estimated
that the average human body has about 10 trillion nerve cells. If
they were placed end to end, they would stretch around the earth
about 47 times!
Main Energy
Meridian
3.
If you look at any
energy diagrams of the body, the spine is always featured as being
the main energy channel or meridian of the body. The majority of our
chakras are in alignment with the spine. Scientifically, we know that
the nerve system sends what’s known as an “action potential”
which is a tiny impulse of energy which travels up to 200 meters per
second, up and down your spine and throughout your body. It is
estimated that there are 3 trillion neurological events a second (of
which you are only aware of 2,000). This is a lot of energy! Think of
your spine like a garden hose, and the water that flows through the
hose is the life-force energy that flows through your spine. Now
think of what happens if you make a kink in the hose and how the
water starts to backlog, increasing the pressure build up and
decreasing the outflow. Another example, what happens to the flow of
the river when there is a beaver dam disrupting its natural flow?
This stagnation of water creates a wonderful breeding ground for bugs
to multiply. The same is true in your body.
Stay tuned next week when
we explore the direct relationship between your spine and emotions,
perceptions, and flexibility and adaptability of you and your spine.
Taking care of you and
your spine,
Dr. Norm

Reorganizational Healing
On Thursday June 19th we will be presenting our next advanced
talk, "Reorganizational Healing". Reorganizational Healing is the meta model as
created by Dr. Donald Epstein. To get you started with some of the wisdom of
this talk I have outline the difference between Reorganizational Healing vs.
Therapeutic Treatments or what could be described as healing vs curing. As always our advanced talks are
well attended and well received. If your innate says that you should be here,
let us know ASAP. Enjoy.
Healing is our goal. Healing is an intimate
and integrative process that encompasses every aspect of our being – the entire
spectrum of our existence. Healing has little to do with the removal of
symptoms. Healing is tuning into innate intelligence within the body and asking
‘what can I do to support my healing now and create fertile ground for my health
to flourish?’ The result being a greater experience of wholeness, wellness and
soundness.
Curing on the other hand, sees the cause of
illness and health outside of us, and implies that someone is trying to
eliminate our disease, symptom, or crisis, most commonly through medication,
surgery, psychotherapy, or other modalities.
“Healing is basically the result of
putting right our wrong relation to our body, to other people and to our own
complicated minds, with emotions and instincts at war with one another and not
properly understood and accepted by what we call “I” or “ me”. The process is
one of reorganization, re-integration, of things which have come
apart.” ~ Laurence J. Bendit,
Psychiatrist
CURING
Curing gives your power away.
Curing is number based, conforms to others.
Curing involves an attempt to control our internal and external
environments.Curing seeks to label effects (not the causes) of disease, place blame and give explanations and excuses for undesirable experiences.
Healing leaves in its wake a sense of accomplishment, fulfillment and empowerment.
Healing considers our uniqueness.
Healing involves surrendering control of our inner and outer experiences.
Healing promotes wholeness, an uninhibited expression of natural rhythms and unprovoked forgiveness.
One cannot
fight darkness,
One
must turn on light.
One cannot
fight disease,
One must turn
on life.

Chiropractic For The World Goes Global
Two years ago I was asked to be the North American Director for Chiropractic For The World, I said yes! We are a Canadian Non-Profit with a global vision. We have already organized numerous chiropractic trips where we have brought chiropractors to developing nations to serve those in need. We have visited Ghana and Rwanda and now have invitations from 10 other countries! We intend these trips to become "perpetual" trips. The next step of our initiative is establishing schools in these countries; we have already built one in Rwanda. The need is high as the literacy rate in many of these countries is ~ 60%. Then the next phase of our work is to turn these schools into chiropractic colleges. We have a very feasible 10 year plan that will bring about massive healing on a global scale. The entire chiropractic profession is coming together to rally behind this act of compassion in a very large way and we would like your help too. In July we will be hosting our Light Up The World With Chiropractic For The World Week. Watch for more information.
"You can feed a man a fish and feed him for a day, or you can teach him how to fish and feed him for a lifetime."
For now I wanted to offer you an invitation. Next Friday June 13th at 7PM, I will be opening the evening, alongside Dr. Robert Champagne the President of Chiropractic For The World, for a talk in Vancouver. You are welcome to come listen to it live, or you can even enjoy it from the comfort of your living room, as this event will be being broadcasted live to the world. To register, click here. People will be tuning in from New Zealand, Australia, USA and Canada (among others). Will you?
Have a great week.
Dr. Norm
